German Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita)
A native to Europe, Chamomile has been used since at least the 1st century AD. Discovery of both ancient Greek (Hippocrates and Dioscorides) and Roman texts has been found illustrating Chamomile as a therapeutic digestive aid. The Roman texts also mention Chamomile being prescribed to women with menstrual pain, irritability and also to children to promote sleep! So we know the herb has been well documented in antiquity, but is it true? Yes! An Iranian clinical trial compared Chamomile to that of mefenamic acid for pre-menstrual syndrome relief. While both were effective for relieving physical pain, Chamomile proved better in the trial as it relieved emotional symptoms in which mefenamic acid did not. In 1993, a trial conducted in Germany showed Chamomile to be effective at easing infantile colic. The herb has been shown to aid digestion and, applied topically, can help with eczema, sore breasts and inflamed skin. The flower heads also contain volatile oil, which has anti-allergenic compounds!
Our Chamomile patch is at its prime and ready to be picked! But not for long as Chamomile does not like the hot temperature, so consider coming sooner rather than later. We also sell chamomile in multiple tea blends and as a tincture. We hope to also have Chamomile skincare products soon, so be on the lookout!
